Grotte di Castellana

"Grotta" means cave. " Grotte" is the plural. Near the small village of Castellana, Franco Anelli in 1938 decided to descend into the black allow of a natural hole. He so discovered a huge cave and started the exploration of a inner world which now is possible to visit comfortably. Before that the peasants were used to throw into that hole only rubbish, thinking it could be the entrance of hell. We ensure it is worth taking the 3 km excursion which starts from the bottom of the big cave. You walk into the earth of the Karst complex with the precise goal of visiting the "white chamber", a final cave with plenty of white stalagmites: a sort of alabaster cathedral which nature set into the soil. So it is not a simple cul-de-sac tunnel but an adventure to reach a final goal. That is much more interesting!

Fasano Wildlife Park

Not far from Castellana there is Fasano where is located a wildlife park, a sort of zoo an-plein-air. We don't think such safari parks should still exist in Italy and in any other part of old Europe, but in Africa! Anyway the Fasano Wildlife Park accomplishes to a really didactic goal. Children and adults with the curiosity of the children will sample the emotion of being for a while in an African savannah. Lions, giraffe and all kind of exotic animals we are used to see in tv, will be just out of the Fiat Panda...
