A shallow uncontaminated small bay in the reserve |
Approsimately 20 km from trullo there is the Natural Reserve of Torre Guaceto, a stretch of uncontaminated coast with beautiful small beaches of crystal clear waters. The park extends itself for approximately 1,000 hectares of land and 2,000 hectares of sea including about seven kilometres of uncontaminated small bays of golden sand alternated with beautiful headlands.
Bathers and visitors are requested to leave their cars in a specific parking lot, a few minutes from the main beach (Punta Penna Grossa). We suggest taking a barefoot walk on the sea-shore and reach some other small bays along the coasts: the nature is even less contaminated by anthropic presence and you can take relaxing baths in the warm shallow clear waters of the numerous bays, gathering fantastic sensations by these full-immersions in the silence of the Nature.
If you walk closer to the tower of Guaceto, which was built back in 1500 by the Aragonese, the environmental protection is even stricter as bathing is no more allowed. We find fantastic to walk on the flat, green headland, round the tower, dressed only with swimming suite and sandals, while the breeze dry our bodies still wet by the last sea bath. |
The reserve is an astonishing territory of biodiversity. You can see it by looking at the century-old olive groves interrupted only by dry, low walls and winding paths or noting the tall sand dunes which peak on the sea, covered by lilies and century old junipers.
The discovery of this biodiversity continues into the sea where precious coral reefs offer their beauty to the snorkelling bathers and where the golden sand alternates fields of Posidonia and coloured fishes, as never disturbed, don't fear to come close to the bathers.
The department of the Management Consortium of Torre Guaceto is carefully monitoring the environmental protection and has also been working on interesting experiments that deal with innovative ways of enjoying the territory. There are currently available at reasonable costs plenty of different experiences:
- Bicycle trekking, we ensure it is an extraordinary experience cycling until dusk along the patches and stretches of century old olive trees;
- Guided excursions, strolling along by foot in the reserve is really a beautiful experience;
- Sea-watching, hold-breathing diving and snorkelling meetings, normally diving masks and flippers are available for everyone;
- Sailing meetings;
